Ovulation and the Fertile Window: What Estimates Mean

Educational information · Not independently reviewed by a medical professional

Ovulation is the release of an egg from an ovary. It does not happen on the same cycle day for everyone, and timing may shift between cycles.

Why the fertile window matters

Sperm may survive for several days in the reproductive tract, while an egg remains viable for a shorter time after ovulation. That is why pregnancy may occur from sex in the days leading up to ovulation.

How this website estimates dates

Our calculator uses a simple approximation of ovulation about 14 days before the next predicted period. The displayed possible fertile window is an educational approximation around that date, not confirmation that ovulation happened.

These estimates cannot confirm or exclude pregnancy risk. Do not use this calculator as contraception.
